Summer Newsletter

Coaches’ Newsletter 7/15/2010

I hope everyone is having a invigorating summer and getting themselves ready for a great school year. I am excited to get started on fun and rewarding new year.

I just wanted to make sure you have all your paperwork ready to go for Captains’ week. If, over the summer, if you have misplaced the file folder of forms you received back in May, please download a new set from the main HPISD web site under the athletic banner, or check out our blog site at www.hphsswimming.blogspot.com and print them off. You may also stop by the athletic department and pick up any forms that you are missing. Remember the most important form I need to have the first day of captains’ week is your completed physical. This needs to be signed by your family physician so that you can participate in any physical activities during captains’ week and at the start of the school year.

As you come back and pick up your schedules, please check to make sure you were placed in the right course period for your group. If you have a question or notice a problem, please email me at colej@hpisd.org and I will confirm any changes with your counselor. Don’t panic if you’re placed in the wrong period; the counselors will get it changed quickly so that it doesn’t affect your academics. I do plan on swimming everyone the first week of school to assess your physical conditioning and to adjust groups based on size, balance of male and female swimmers, stroke technique, and general level of conditioning from over the summer.

I hope everyone will come back in shape to start training for the upcoming season; we plan on doing some extensive running and dry lands early in the season, harder than we’ve done before. So be ready to work.

Finally, if you have any questions about suits, equipment, or any other general questions, talk with your Captains - they will be happy to help in any way. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone next month.

Forms for next year

Hey guys!
Link to forms for next year!
You'll have received a folder containing all of these, but in case you lose them, here is the link to the hpisd athletics page, where you should be able to recover everything except the emergency card and the swimming agreement. So no excuses for not having them! I won't be there next year to track you down.
You can find the same link HERE and HERE as well. Just so you dont miss it.
Love Gillian

AHHHHH!!!!

As you no doubt know if you are on this site, this past weekend HP Girls won the perfect 10 in the single most nerve-wracking athletic event in the history of the universe. Watch out for articles in the Dallas Morning News and Bagpipe, and more announcements throughout the community as people realize that we are the single most consistently successful team in UIL history. I believe there is a website on which you can watch the state meet on demand, but the address escapes me. It may have been emailed out. In other news, I still need baby pictures. Work on that. I'm sending an email to parents today or tomorrow. Also, I'll put the state results up as soon as I download them. I know the 400 relay would probably like to see their splits as everyone was too emotional at the time to take them down.

Swim Banquet

You may want to note that the date of the swim banquet has been changed from April 16 to April 1, thus rendering many seniors (me) tense for its duration. However, it will take place, other than date, as planned, and will be no April Fools Joke.
SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS! My own mother is the only one that has, as requested, given me baby pictures. I NEED THEM! Or else I will make a baby Gillian slideshow set to sad music instead of a Senior one.

Cornerstone Athlete Scholar Program

There are few times in the life of a Highland Park student when he/she gets to stand onstage and receive an award for having better-than-mediocre grades and being a member of clubs. This opportunity won't last forever. The Cornerstone Scholar Athlete applications are due Friday, February 19, and if you do not fill them out, you will miss a wonderful chance to fill a quarter-inch on your resume. Minimum GPA is 2.5, and you must have a combination of grades, AP/honors credits, and club involvement to receive this award. Open to Juniors and Seniors.

Goal Times!!!

We had a great meet last night, and we have a lot coming up, namely the Frisco dual meet here next Tuesday, then District, Regional, and State. District and Regional goal times are posted in the pool, but here they are for your reference as well. This is, specifically, a list of the times of the 6th place finishers in each event. Making these times will most likely put you in finals.

IF YOU ARE A SENIOR OR A SENIOR PARENT:
I need baby pictures and such for a wonderfully tear-jerking slideshow. You can email them digitally to me at gillian@grindstaff.org or bring in photos. Also, if you have swim team candids or other great pictures for the slideshow I'd love to have those too.

Girls, don't forget the party Saturday, and stay strong scotties!!
